Pharmacy is a fast-growing, dynamic, versatile and increasingly diverse profession which provides several opportunities to serve the Nation. Pharmacists comprise the third largest healthcare professionals in the world and the pharmacy profession has been evolving steadily over the last decade in India. Today, pharmacists have expanded their role from dispensing to pharmaceutical care by maximizing the benefits of medications and their safety. Since the last decade, pharmacy profession in India is evolving due to industrialization and an increase in patient needs, leading to an increase in the demand of pharmacists. This profession now transformed into a hub for “Global Healthcare” and evolved as a multidisciplinary and multifaceted field. Recently the Pharmaceutical industry and health sector has thrown open a sea of opportunities for Pharmacy Profession. Careers in pharmacy offer many benefits and opportunities. These include working in the community, a hospital, home health care, pharmaceutical research companies, nursing homes, government health agencies, and higher education. In addition, pharmacy has excellent earning potential and is consistently ranked as one of the most highly trusted professions due to the care and service pharmacists provide.

Department of Pharmacy, PIMR, Bhopal is Private Institute owned and managed by the Jairam Education Society, Bhopal. The Institute is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV), Bhopal and is approved by Pharmacy Council of India (PCI). Courses offered by the Institute are B.Pharm. and D.Pharm.

Overview

At Department of Pharmacy, PIMR Bhopal, you will typically take modules focusing on chemistry, human biology and physiology, pharmaceutics (how medicines are made), and pharmacology (how drugs interact with the body).
Pharmacy degrees combine academic research with more vocational training and professional pharmacy skills, such as learning about legal and ethical issues, and how to interact with patients.
You will learn all about prescriptions, drugs, medications and clinical practice, and practice responding to different scenarios. As you study pharmacy, you may have the opportunity to specialize in a particular type of role (such as new medicine development or patient care), or in a particular field of medical care (such as infectious diseases, or care of the elderly).

Welcome to the noble profession of Pharmacy!

The Department of Pharmacy at PIMR, Bhopal came into existence in the year 2024 with the introduction of Diploma in Pharmacy (D. Pharm.) and Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm.). The students, fresh out of junior college are trained in the various aspects of pharmaceutical sciences and then they emerge as professionals in the field of pharmacy. We believe not only in academic excellence but also in the overall development of our students. The Department of Pharmacy has state-of-the-art infrastructural facilities, digitalized library with a plethora of books, ultra-modern classrooms for flipped and blended mode of Teaching-Learning pedagogy. Highly qualified faculty members provides holistic environment for the better understanding of the basic concepts of Pharmacy and sharpen professional and technical acumen of the students by persistent counselling and mentoring.

Pharmacy is one of the important professions of Healthcare which caters to the patient-centric approach of providing pharmaceutical care to the consumers. The main subjects of pharmacy are divided into Pharmaceutics (the science of dosage form design), Pharmaceutical Chemistry (dealing with synthesis, identification and analysis of drugs), Pharmacology (dealing with how drugs act in the body and how they are absorbed, distributed in body fluids, metabolized and excreted out from the body) and Pharmacognosy (that deals with the drugs that are obtained from natural sources).

Students after graduating B. Pharm finds a wide array of options for their employment, viz., in Industry (Production, QC/QA, Microbiology/ Analytical laboratory/ Packaging), Marketing and Sales (Biomedical Devices/ Sophisticated Analytical Instruments/ Medicines), Clinical Research (Clinical Trial Associate/ Pharmacovigilance Associate/ Medical Writer), Drugs Inspector or can become entrepreneur by starting one’s own industry or a Pharmacy Store to practice Community pharmacy.

Students after completing D. Pharm can open a Pharmacy store or finds employment as a Pharmacist in Government and Private sectors. They can also work as Laboratory Technicians in Pharmacy colleges or opt for Higher Education under Lateral Entry to B. Pharm.
